Eye Body Connection

Although the Paula Method was not originally meant to treat eye issues, the last eighty years have shown us that, in fact, it is highly effective in improving eye health. There are nearly 50 eye exercises in the Paula Method. Some activate the sphincters of the eyes, some are movement exercises, and others are so gentle that we mostly just imagine them. All of them awaken our awareness to sensations in our bodies.

Like all Paula Method exercises, the eye exercises are designed to treat the body as a whole and initiate chain reactions. These reactions help the body balance and heal itself. A balanced body functions well and feels good.

When I started learning Paula, I didn’t want to do any eye exercises. The eyes felt too sensitive, and I was afraid to deal with them. I only agreed to do hands over eyes because in this exercise the hands cover the eyes and they feel protected. Over time this has changed, and eye exercises are now my favorite exercises. Many hours of my Paula work these days are solely dedicated to working with my eyes.

The more I work with my eyes, the more fascinated I am with how they affect the rest of the body. I look at the information that my eyes give me as a brief yet accurate statement of how my body is doing. And, I use the sensations in my eyes to lead the way to deeper work.
